C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) mediate the innate immune response to bacterial and fungal pathogens by recruiting natural killer cells and/or dendritic cells to sites of infection. The leukocyte mannose receptor (MR), a member of the CLRs, recruits and activates DCs. In this study, we determined the role of the MR in the generation of Th1 responses and DC activation in vivo. In bone marrow chimeric mice, we found that a high proportion of DCs expressed MR after intravenous injection of Listeria monocytogenes, which was followed by increased numbers of MR+ DCs and Th1 response in the draining lymph nodes. In contrast, a reduced proportion of DCs expressed MR in mice with an MR-deficient background, which was associated with reduced numbers of MR+ DCs and Th1 responses in the draining lymph nodes. We next examined the effect of MR on the host response to oral infection. Infection with live Listeria in the oral cavity was characterized by increased cell migration into the draining lymph node and accumulation of Th1 cells in the draining lymph nodes. These changes in cell migration and Th1 response were observed in wild-type but not MR-deficient mice. In conclusion, MR+ DCs are essential for the generation of Th1 responses in vitro and in vivo.There is no scientific data to support an association between gingivitis and periodontal disease, the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) said Wednesday in its position statement on the topic.
According to the statement, gingivitis is not an indicator of gingivitis, and the link between gingivitis and periodontitis is "poorly supported by scientific evidence."

The stability of polymerized ethylene in the presence of (11)C-labelled gamma-butyrolactone ((11)C-GBL) was investigated by measuring the fractions of polymerized ethylene at various time intervals. Polymerized ethylene was determined by gas chromatography using a new method using a β-cyclodextrin derivative to trap polymerized ethylene. The fractions of polymerized ethylene increased with time during the first 24 h at ambient temperature. The increase in the polymerization of ethylene (in the presence of (11)C-GBL) was attributed to the degradation of (11)C-GBL.Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

History
The university was established as the College of Science and Technology on 1 October 1992 by incorporating the former Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. On 10 August 1994, the College of Science and Technology was granted university status and renamed as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
